We’re now accepting applications for the Yoga Trapeze® Teacher Certification course, where you’ll learn how to teach both group and private lessons for beginner and intermediate students.

For passionate yoga students who love inversion yoga, this is an exciting opportunity to train with YOGABODY, the leading educator and manufacturer of inversion slings around the world. The Yoga Trapeze® is the most popular yoga inversion sling ever created, with more than 100,000 students in 81 countries. Despite the ever-growing demand, there are hardly any professional instructors—until now.

Benefits of Teaching the Yoga Trapeze®:

  • Deliver Results: At YOGABODY, we love all styles of yoga, but our students tend to be results-oriented and come to us with very clear goals. For students with back pain, poor flexibility, weak core muscles, and poor grip strength (all very common issues), the Yoga Trapeze® offers a remarkable way for them to experience transformation.

  • Share the Benefits of Inversions with Everyone: Inversions have never been more popular in yoga, but most students can’t perform even a simple headstand, so they skip these poses and miss out on both the health benefits and the fun of going upside down. When taught correctly, people of all ages can experience inversion therapy using the Yoga Trapeze® and eventually build the strength needed to progress to mat-based inverted poses.

  • Attract Students Easily: Traditional yoga has become so common that it can be difficult to attract the attention of new students. Mat classes are amazing and will always be the core of yoga, but everyone loves variety and something new. The Yoga Trapeze® provides a fun and fresh way to introduce people to yoga. It takes the ancient practice of yoga and literally turns it on its head. As a teacher, it’ll help you attract new students; and for your students, they’ll have yet another great reason to give yoga a try.

  • Set Your Own Schedule: The ability to set your own schedule is one of the biggest benefits of working as a yoga teacher. As a certified Yoga Trapeze® instructor, you can choose to work full-time or part-time, take random days off, or go on vacation as you please. Finally, you’re in charge of your own time.

  • Travel & Teach Anywhere: If you’re interested in traveling and teaching in different cities and even different countries, teaching yoga is the career for you. More and more opportunities arise every day, and for adventurous people, there are so many options.

  • Earn a Great Salary: Even as a new teacher, you can make a great hourly wage. When you’re highly specialized in your teaching, you’ll typically make as much as senior-level teachers of other styles; and your private session rates will be comparable to that of a massage therapist or chiropractor.

The Opportunity

At YOGABODY, we pioneered both group and private classes in our yoga studios, and the response has been overwhelming. More and more studios, fitness centers, and individuals worldwide are now looking for highly-trained teachers to model our success and lead this fun and dynamic style of practice.

For certified Trapeze teachers, there are three main teaching opportunities right now. First, working with private clients can be a great way to create highly-individualized, solution-oriented sessions. Private client work offers you a flexible schedule, great pay, and the opportunity to impact your students’ lives in a big way.

Next, group classes are popping up in yoga studios all over the world, but most studios don’t have qualified teachers, so this gives you a unique and specialized service to offer. Group classes are fun, challenging, and instant community-builders. Last but not least, gyms and fitness centers are quickly adding Yoga Trapezes to their facilities as their clients are hungry for new ways to stretch and strengthen their bodies.

Key Teaching Opportunities:

  • Private Sessions: Yoga Trapeze® teachers can teach from their home or office and work one-on-one with clients while earning a great hourly wage.

  • Yoga Studios: More and more studios are adding inversion yoga rigging to their existing facilities, and they need teaches like you.

  • Gyms: Many gyms already have suspension trainers (TRXs), so it’s easy to hang Yoga Trapezes for private or semi-private sessions.

  • CrossFit Boxes: These fitness fanatics love the Yoga Trapeze® because it combines gymnastics-like movements they already know with classic yoga postures. Many CrossFit boxes have ceiling rigs ready-made for the Yoga Trapeze®.

  • Rock Climbing Gyms: Climbers love yoga, and with so many pull-up bars, ceiling rigs, and other setups, you can quickly get a Yoga Trapeze class going.

  • Schools: Kids naturally gravitate toward inversion training. Once they start playing, you’ll have a hard time getting them off the Yoga Trapeze®. Private schools and even some public schools now offer yoga as an extracurricular activity, and the Yoga Trapeze® can be a great addition to those classes.

Why People Love the Yoga Trapeze®
  • Instant Spinal Traction: Back pain is an epidemic, and using the Yoga Trapeze®, clients can invert gravity and elongate their spine with little to no prior yoga experience. For many, this type of pain relief is unmatched by any other form of treatment.

  • Suspension Training: Functional fitness requires the pushing, pulling, and holding of weight. In traditional yoga classes, you push and hold your body weight constantly, but it’s very difficult to find pulling motions in classes. Pulling is a crucial movement for back, neck, and upper body health, and the Yoga Trapeze® introduces functional pulling movements in a fun and dynamic way.

  • Flexibility: Aside from inversions, there are also dozens of hip openers, shoulder openers, and hamstring stretches that work amazingly well for flexibility. Using the leverage of the sling, gravity, and suspension, you can practice flexibility training in a whole new way.

  • Deep Backbends: Backbends are some of the most challenging poses in yoga and students often get so frustrated that they skip them altogether. On the Yoga Trapeze®, you can do passive backbends (just hang and breathe) to open the stiff and stuck areas of your shoulders and thoracic spine.

The Curriculum

The Yoga Trapeze® Teacher Training curriculum is designed to empower you with the anatomy, physiology, leadership, safety, and business skills needed to become a successful teacher. Course director Lucas Rockwood has been training professional instructors since 2006, and his approach is 100 percent focused on results. This is not a yoga retreat or an extended workshop. You’re here to learn to teach, and you’ll walk away as a qualified instructor.

Anatomy & Physiology: The movements and exercises on the Yoga Trapeze® are atypical and rarely found in any studio or gym, so you’ll dive deep into the physiology and anatomy of what’s going on internally. This knowledge will give you a better understanding of your own body, and more importantly, the bodies of your clients. We’ll put particular emphasis on the spine, as that is a key area of focus.

Back Care & Back Injury: Many people are drawn to the Yoga Trapeze® for back pain relief, so as a teacher, you need to be well-versed in common ailments, treatments, terminology, and safety protocols. As yoga teachers, we are not doctors, but our yoga can serve as a form of rehab therapy when taught correctly, with the support of health care professionals. Our students are not always as prudent as they should be; you need to understand the landscape of back pain and medical problems so you can navigate it safely and effectively as a teacher.

Sequencing & Class Planning: You’ll learn dozens of individual poses during the course, but more importantly, you’ll learn how to structure and sequence both beginner and intermediate flow class. You’ll also learn how you can teach pose-by-pose workshop style sessions, which are great for guest teaching gigs while traveling.

Leadership & Class Management: Leading a Yoga Trapeze® class is much more challenging than a mat-based class because students are upside down, twisted around, cannot see you, and can sometimes be talking or laughing during class. As an instructor, you need to enforce safety and keep control over your group and private classes at all times. Leadership, word choice, body language, and demonstrations are of the utmost importance.

Safety: Taught correctly, the Yoga Trapeze® is extremely safe, but anytime you’re hanging upside down, there is potential for danger. As a teacher, your job is first and foremost to keep everyone safe—check the rigs, disallow wild students, teach appropriate level postures, and stay vigilant. Safety is a key part of your job, and it’s something you’ll master during the course.

Marketing & Business: It’s great to learn a new skill, but if you don’t know how to market and sell your services, what’s the point? During the course, you’ll learn how to use common tools, such as social media, to attract and retain clients, earn a great living, and charge for your services. This is not a mindset module. We’ll teach you exactly what to do to get paying clients right away.

By successfully graduating from this course, you’ll be qualified and ready to teach both beginner and intermediate classes internationally. Bala Sarasvati | Trainer

Bala Sarasvati is a Jane Willson Professor in the Arts at the University of Georgia. She provides the guest faculty for the graduate dance program at the National University of Costa Rica, as well as numerous teacher and artist residencies for summer intensives, universities, and dance companies in the US and abroad.

Holding degrees in dance from the University of Utah (BFA, BS) and Ohio State University (MA, MFA), Bala is also a certified movement analyst (CMA) from the Laban/Bartenieff Institute of Movement Studies in New York and a certified Yoga Trapeze teacher. She completed the Yoga Trapeze Teacher Training in June 2017 in Fallbrook, California—the first US certification program.

Along with extensive formal training, personal practice, and teaching experience in modern and contemporary dance, Bala embraced the art of aerial dance 17 years ago.

As artistic director, choreographer, and filmmaker for CORE Concert (Contemporary and Aerial) Dance Company, she has developed and produced numerous interdisciplinary and collaborative dance projects, combining science technology and the arts. Her dance training and multimedia and aerial dance performances have been distributed throughout the US and internationally in Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, Costa Rica, England, and France. She was even featured in Dance Teacher Magazine in January 2017.

After years of experimenting with aerial dance on bungees, silks, slings, and other trapezes, she sought an aerial apparatus accessible and beneficial to the general student population and selected the Yoga Trapeze. Bala launched the first university-level course in the Yoga Trapeze in the spring of 2017 at UGA and presented it to the faculty and students at the National University of Costa Rica soon after.

Kimberly Tripp

“I was a little bit frustrated with the system before because I did not understand the moves and I did not have the upper body strength for some of the poses or the techniques so, after I came to the course, I was thought a lot about the technique.

Barcelona it’s also the perfect place to be, the studios are gorgeous and clean, very professional. I loved the staff, they give the group experience but also take the time to give you the individual experience you are looking for.”

Shannon Miller

“The Trapeze Course really set us up for not only teaching it but also how to use it yourself and loads of creative opportunities; to create your own sequences and flows.

For me was just a great community, there is a lot of people very who are very active in the yoga community. They have cool ideas, business ideas so is really cool to hear what they are into and start a good discussion. ”
