The average American consumes 125 grams of sugar per day. No one in their right mind would feed themselves 25 teaspoons of white table sugar per day, but added sweeteners are hidden in everything from salad dressing and sauces to snack bars and beverages. In this modern world, unless you’re actively avoiding it, excess sugar consumption is the norm.
This can lead to weight gain, blood sugar and metabolic health problems, and it can even affect your hormones and mood. But sugar is addictive and it’s very hard to simply stop consuming it.
