NOW ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS

The Yoga Teachers College offers master-level training for those looking to build a career as a yoga professional. Our trainees benefit from the best of modern learning technology combined with old school apprenticeship. Graduates walk away with the skills, confidence and experience needed to become not just teachers, but community and business leaders as well. Whether your goal is to teach part time locally, travel and lead workshops internationally, or to open your own studios, The Yoga Teachers College will support your career every step of the way.

Benefits Of Teaching Yoga

Yoga is booming, and for teachers, there has never been a more exciting time both in terms of impact and income potential. According to a recent CNN Money report, working as a yoga teacher was number ten on the list of most desirable jobs with potential salaries over $100K/year. [1]

Top Benefit of Teaching Yoga:

  • Transform Lives – as a teacher, your ultimate goal is to facilitate transformation. Every time you get up in front of a class to teach, you’ll have the opportunity to truly change people’s lives. That’s an amazing gift and a great job to have.

  • Deepen Your Practice – As the saying goes: “If you want to learn something—teach it!” Teachers are students for life, getting paid to share their experiences as they learn and grow on their own journey.

  • Enjoy a Flexible Work Schedule – Teaching is hard work, but the ability to craft your own schedule and take large blocks of time off for travel or study is a luxury very few people have. For many, yoga teaching equals freedom.

  • Earn a Good Salary – For the first time in history, you can live a financially comfortable and even abundant life as a yoga teacher. Average salaries for experienced teachers are $67k/year, and many senior teachers earn over $100k/year.

  • Work Anywhere / Live Anywhere – Most people dream of traveling the world but can’t figure out how to make it happen. More than any other career, yoga teachers now have incredible travel and work opportunities.

  • Do What You Love – Most polls show that 80% or more of the population doesn’t like their job. If you’re in that situation now, it’s hard to imagine waking up and loving your work every day, but with yoga, it’s possible.

Why Choose the Yoga Teachers College?

With over 5,000 yoga teacher training schools worldwide, the logical question is: “Why choose The Yoga Teachers College?” Before making any decision, you should consider the quality and depth of the training itself, the level of support offered, the potential career opportunities after the course, the value vs. your financial investment, and lastly, the organization you’re partnering with. Here are the factors that make the Yoga Teachers College unique…

Academic Excellence – The Yoga Teachers College offers a 500hr degree program, more than double the education offered at your typical certificate course, a level that surpasses every industry standard by 200%+. On top of that, we require all graduates to achieve an 85% (or higher) average score on all tests and assessments, while most schools simply require you to show up in order to graduate. Our commitment to excellence means that a degree from the Yoga Teachers College holds a real market value and demonstrates masters-level knowledge earned through practice and study.

Personal Support – We’ve revived the age-old tradition of mentorship, and during your studies, you’ll have support and guidance every step of the way. As a student, you’ll work directly with your teaching mentor throughout your entire 6-month journey. On a daily basis, you’ll have the opportunity to ask questions, get feedback, learn and grow as you go.

If you’re struggling with an anatomy module, your mentor will call you up and help you get through it. If the public speaking sections are causing you problems, again, your mentor will be there to support you every step of the way. Mentorship happens both via phone and email as well as in-person during your immersions in Barcelona. Post-course, the support continues with job finding and networking opportunities, monthly refresher courses, and optional annual meet-ups in person to keep you on top of your game.

eLearning Platform – Technology is changing education worldwide making it more efficient, more fun and cost-effective. The Yoga Teachers College leverages eLearning for many of the theory-based aspects of yoga teacher education. Whether it’s memorizing pose names or learning the anatomy of the knee, our eLearning platform makes it possible for deep learning in many aspects of yoga education that are often skimmed over at other schools.

Great Value Investment – The cost of education has reached all-time highs around the world and this is often due to bloated operational costs, pointless real estate, and business infrastructures that have nothing to do with your learning. At YOGABODY, part of our mission to democratize yoga means offering professional education at a price that almost everyone can afford. To make this feasible, we run a lean operation optimized for learning. We leverage our existing facilities in Barcelona, we’ve pioneered eLearning in the yoga market, and our intensive immersions deliver maximum education at the best possible price.

Flexible Scheduling Options – How are you going to fit study and practice into your already busy life? What if you have work or family obligations that make it impossible to take 4-8 weeks off to attend a long-term, residential course?

To solve the problem of “not enough time,” we developed a unique schedule to our program that couples distance learning with in-person immersions. The result is a training program that is not only more convenient, but also gives you more education and more experience at a fraction of the cost.

Guaranteed Job Placement – The final module of your program involves a local apprenticeship and job placement. We’ll help you put together an exceptional “teachers packet” including a resume (CV), cover letter, recommendation letter, and photos that will help you begin your career. How can we guarantee you’ll get your dream job? We can’t, but we can guarantee you’ll find your first paid teaching job during our program (and yes, it might just be your dream job too).

Exciting Business Opportunities – In addition to job placement, graduates can also qualify to be an authorized YOGABODY regional teacher, a product distributor, or a licensed YOGABODY studio owner. Graduates always have the option for total autonomy, of course, but also the option for a true partnership with YOGABODY where we collaborate to make our shared dreams become a reality.

Join a Global Movement [our mission] – Founded in 2007, YOGABODY welcomes students of all backgrounds and is committed to democratizing yoga so everyone has access. The YOGABODY group currently includes a publishing arm, a products business, a media production group, and physical yoga studios with an extended reach into 81 countries.

Graduates have access to our retail manufacturing, studio contacts, graduates database, world-renown experts, and on-going support. The college and brand serve as a support base that you can leverage throughout your teaching career. Our goal is independent, empowered teachers united by a shared mission.

How It Works?

The Yoga Teachers College is designed to fit your busy schedule while adding a depth of education previously unavailable. Is a 6-month program with two, in-person immersions in Barcelona. Between your immersions, you’ll complete extensive eLearning with personal mentorship every step of the way. As part of your training journey, you’ll log 100 classes (of yoga practice) at local studios in your area, and lastly, you’ll complete an apprenticeship and placement module to kickstart your new career.

Next Immersion Dates:
8-14 January 2017

2017 Immersions (exact dates TDA): April, September & December

Scheduling: The schedule is intentionally flexible to fit into your life.

You have up to 1 year to complete your course, so if for scheduling reasons, you need more time between your in-person immersions, that’s not a problem.

Admissions: We are highly selective and admissions are by application and interview only. We offer rolling admissions with new students accepted each month. If accepted, you can begin your eLearning studies immediately working directly with your mentor, and you can schedule your first immersion as soon as spots are made available.

Evenings are all about adjustments, and you’ll assist our fulltime teachers in our regularly-scheduled, public classes (with real students!).

By the end of Immersion I, you’ll be able to teach a full YOGABODY Flow class (one of our 5 core sequences), you’ll be confident and skilled at giving dozens of hands-on adjustments and assists, and you’ll be ready to start teaching practice groups when you return home.

MODULE IV. Internship & Placement
4 Weeks / 100 hrs | Location: TBD

The final stage of your training is customized based on you and your personal goals. Some trainees’ goals are to teach in local studios and gyms, some want to travel and lead workshops, others are interested in opening their own studios. Whatever your goals are, we are here to support you, and this module is focused on getting you up and running with your new career as quickly as possible.

For most trainees, this month includes teaching friends and family, assisting public classes, teaching community classes, teaching privates, and hustling to get as much experience and “face time” with the public as possible. It’s best to dive in head first, so we’ll help you explore every opportunity.

During this module, it’s crucial that you continue to communicate weekly (at least) with your training mentor to make sure you’re on the right track, applying your new learning, and achieving your objectives. Your first month of teaching is very formative, so you’ll want to work closely with the team at The Yoga Teachers College, review your previous coursework, and start off strong and focused.

By the end of your Internship & Placement Module, you’re expected to get your first paid teaching gig (or better), and you’ll be supported and assisted every step of the way.

Meet Your Teachers

Our training team consists entirely of active, working professionals and an ever-growing collection of advisors. Our core team is small by design as we work directly with each and every student as you go from zero to launch in your yoga yoga career. Aside from our training team, you’ll also have access to YOGABODY’s highly sought-after marketing, advertising, and social media experts who will help you achieve your professional yoga goals.

Lucas says: “It drives me crazy to see the yoga world owned and operated by venture capitalists and big-money investors… where are the yoga teachers, the misfits, and community leaders like you and me that built this market? Where are the people that love yoga and dedicate their lives to it? It’s time for us yoga teachers to claim our place as teachers and business leaders. The two are not mutually exclusive, and I’m committed to changing this industry from the bottom up.”

Frequently Asked Questions
After leading courses for over a decade, the most common feedback I hear from trainees is: “I wish I had more time.” Short, intense learning is wonderful for small chunks of information, but for the extensive curriculum we offer at the Yoga Teachers College, you need more time to absorb, retain and integrate your learning. Next level training requires next level commitment in terms of time—it’s just that simple
No. You cannot become a fully qualified teacher without face-time with your trainers and face-time with real students. Distance learning combined with nose-to-toes intensives is the future of education, and to be a qualified yoga teacher, the in-person modules are an absolute must.
If you are not able to find time for this, then it’s not the right course for you. We’re looking to train next-level teachers, that requires a big commitment.
Everyone struggles with self-motivation, that’s normal. We’ve structured this program so that you have at-home assignments couple with personal mentorship and group accountability. If you slack off for more than a few days, your phone will start ringing. We’re here to support you, motivate you, and motivate each other.
The best teachers are the best students—no exceptions. To be a well-informed and well-trained teacher you need a quantity and diversity of training that is only possible when you take lots of classes. Your 100 classes need to be logged during your 6-month training period, and you need to take notes on your classes in your journals. As you transition from a student to a teacher, you’ll begin to experience and learn from classes in a whole new way.
No. At YOGABODY, we feel that your personal beliefs and lifestyle choices are yours to make freely. We reject group-think and dogma and encourage our teachers to be themselves and find their own path. We don’t offer answers or belief systems; instead, we offer tools and practices that will hopefully lead you to find your own truths.
No. These modalities are not part of the YOGABODY system. We teach yoga, breath, nutrition, and seated meditation practices. Those are our tools and our focus.
You course consists of two in-person immersion in Barcelona, one toward the beginning and other toward the end of your studies. Between immersions, you have eLearning and Yoga Practice assignments. The eLearning component consists of 24 online modules, hyper-focused classes you’ll find immediately useful for your teaching, your practice and your career. These online classes are video and audio based and include simple quizzes that you’ll review in person with your Training Mentor. During your at-home modules, you’ll work directly with your Practice Journal and with your Training Mentor to make sure you get the most from the experience. In a typical week, we recommend you should plan to take 3-5 yoga classes at your local studio(s) and set aside 2-5 hours for eLearning studies.
Yes, if that’s an option for you. We have students now from Barcelona participating in the course.
We cannot guarantee employment opportunities within our company since there are many issues to consider before making that kind of an offer. We do, of course, often hire from our own training groups, but this is on a case-by-case, and opportunity-by-opportunity basis and it would not be realistic to plan for this. What we do guarantee is that with our help in module IV, you’ll and your first paid teaching gig.
You’ll be assigned a Teaching Mentor who is a working professional with thousands of teaching hours experience. This mentor will work with you on a weekly, and sometimes daily basis, to answer questions, help you with your studies and reading, and prepare you for your in-person modules in Barcelona.
Barcelona is the home base for YOGABODY International. The weather is great, the cost of living and travel is very reasonable, and the yoga scene is still very new. Overall, it’s an awesome place to be, and it’s our home base.
No. Co-owning a business is a huge commitment both personally and professionally, like marriage, and not something we can promise. In most cases, we recommend having silent partners or no business partners at all for our yoga studio business model. This type of business often works better with less cooks in the kitchen.
No. We have no interest in telling you what color shirt to wear or how to run your business. Instead ,we want to show you what we do, allow you to take what you like and leave the rest. For teachers who would like to represent our YOGABODY brand, we do have an authorized teacher program available to select graduates. For those who want to open YOGABODY-branded studios, we have a very cost-effective and simple studio license program that makes it affordable for you to copy what we’re doing in your home town.
The Yoga Teachers College is here to provide you with the highest-level yoga education anywhere. What you decide to do with it is completely up to you. Yoga is growing faster outside traditional yoga studios today faster than in it, so many graduates are getting creative with how, where and what they teach. We love it.
If you can use a computer, write email, and use Facebook, you’ll do just fine. We leverage new technology for learning, but the technology we use is simple by design.
All graduates are required to score at least 85% on all tests and assessments. Each eLearning module has a quiz or test, and during your in-person immersions, you’ll be assessed numerous times. In the case of a low score, you’ll always have the opportunity to go back, learn and review your studies and try again; but under no circumstances will we sell teaching degrees or tolerate incompetence. This is a serious program and our gradates earn their credentials.
Like any job, this is highly variable. CNN Money just did a report that found the average senior teacher (teaching 7 years+) was making $67K/year, and some teachers were earning over $100k/year. Yoga teaching is not a quick path to wealth, but it can be lucrative and surprisingly profitable if you are business-minded. We find most starting teachers earn $20-30K per year in traditional teaching gigs, and as much as double that in non-traditional settings such as schools, hospitals, and corporate programs.
After working with dozens of studios and consulting with many, many more, it’s safe to say the average net profit for the owner-operator of your typical single-room, local yoga studio is around $40,000. Owning two studios is never double the work (it’s more like 20% more work), so many studio owners expand to own multiple locations over time so they can grow into a comfortable 6-figure income. There are certainly small, local studios that throw off over 6-figures in profits, but we encourage conservative financial planning.
That all depends on you. There are so many different ways to design your life. We have YOGABODY teachers that teach 15 classes per week, have a regular work shift, and take 2 days off just like a “normal job.” We have teachers that travel and teach one or two weekend workshops per month around the world, and we have other teachers (like me) who spend most of their time creating platforms for other teachers to shine. Each person is so different, and as time goes on, your interests and focus will change. What’s best for you is what’s best for you. We’re here to open doors and create opportunities.
We recommend 6 months for the training period. Some can complete it faster, and you could take up to 12 months (max) to complete the course. At the recommended pace of 1 module per week, 6 months is a good target period. If you’re concerned about going more quickly or slowly, simply talk with your Teaching Mentor to see if it’s an option.

Now Accepting Applications

As the yoga market matures and grows with no end in sight, the demand for master-level teachers has far out-paced the supply, and the current education systems are not equipped to support teachers in their journey not just from student to teacher, but also from teacher to leader, and from leader to business owner and educator. The Yoga Teachers College is here to bridge that gap, nurture innovation in yoga, and support tomorrow’s yoga leaders.
