A New Year’s Yoga Retreat with Lucas Rockwood

Two years ago, I decided I was going to have my best year ever. My New Year’s resolutions were pretty typical. I wanted to have more fun, get in the best shape of my life, grow my businesses, and deepen my relationships with my wife, my kids and friends.
Long story short, it was an epic fail.
My plans for the best year ever dissolved into one of the worst years of my life. I lost a great business and business partner, I lost a lifelong friend, I went to more funerals than parties…
… I slept horribly and gained weight. I couldn’t even hold a conversation with my wife, and every day just felt like a struggle for no apparent reason.
From the outside, my life looked perfect, but on the inside, I was an anxious mess.
I don’t know where you’re at right now, but maybe you can relate to what happened to me. Maybe your energy isn’t where you’d like it to be. Maybe your work isn’t fulfilling, your personal relationships are dull, or maybe you’re gaining weight for no reason.
I don’t know what it is for you, but since you’re here on this page, I’m guessing you have something that you’d like to change—and I’ve learned a few things in my journey that might be helpful for you.
First, I learned that without a blueprint, a clear path to where you want to go—with your health, your wealth, and your relationships— it’s just too hard. When you’re 18 years old, you can stumble through life and it’s all a fun adventure, but when there are real responsibilities and important decisions at stake, there’s just no time to screw around. You need to know how to get where you’re going and you need to make every second count.
Secondly, I learned that you just can’t find peace or abundance or balance in life on your own—you need people to support you along the way. And this is really hard because most people, even the people you love, are on autopilot taking life by default rather than design.
Since my early 20’s, yoga has always been my go-to solution when I get in a mess; and now more than ever, I find there are deeper and deeper layers to yoga practice that transform you and set the stage for personal growth and actualization in your life.
Each year that goes by, life gets more complex and demanding with opportunities, choices and challenges. But life also becomes richer too, but in order to really enjoy the richness of life, you have to get your body and mind in order…
… and this is why I’m making you this video today.
To help you set the stage for an amazing year, I’m leading an exclusive yoga retreat in Barcelona called, “Your Best Year Ever.”

This is a total immersion yoga retreat set in Barcelona. Your days will be filled with yoga practice, nutrition lectures, breathing workshops, posture clinics and outdoor adventures; and you’ll also have plenty of time each day to explore the beautiful city of Barcelona on your own or with your fellow students.

- 07:30 to 09:30 – Session #1: Morning Yoga Practice
- 09:30 to 11:00 – Breakfast Break (on your own)
- 11:30 to 13:30 – Session #2: Workshop I
- 13:30 to 15:00 – Lunch Break (lunch provided)
- 15:30 to 17:30 – Session #3: Workshop II / Afternoon Practice
- 20:00 to 21:30 – Optional City Exploration w/Group Some Days

YOGA PRACTICES – We’ll be practicing a variety of different yoga techniques throughout the entire course, but our daily morning practice is our “main event” in terms of flowing, vinyasa yoga practice in the YOGABODY style. During morning practices, you’ll learn all 5 of our signature sequences—Flow, Abs, Glutes, Gravity & Trapeze—and we’ll also clinic and workshop the peak poses and most challenging sequences so you have the step-by-step approach needed to advance your practice both during and after the course.
Each morning, we’ll start off with invigorating yoga kriyas (cleaning exercises) followed by a very strong and sweating vinyasa yoga practice with posture clinics throughout. And we’ll finish in a pool of sweat with some relaxing music and calming breath.
You’ll Learn the Following YOGABODY Classes:

No experience is required. Expect to be challenged and to finish classes smiling and sweaty.

BREATH WORK – Yoga breathing is extremely powerful and can be used to take control over your autonomic nervous system. During the course, you’ll learn how to turn on, turn off, and balance your nerves depending on your life situation. A huge part of yoga practice is tuning and regaining sensitivity in your nervous system, and the breath allows us to peel back a deeper layer of the onion and work on a very subtle level to have very profound results.
You’ll Learn the Following Breathing Practices:
- Breath of Fire
- Buteyko Breathing
- 4×4 Box Breathing
- Coherent Breathing
- Z-Time PM Practice
You’ll learn morning, evening and balancing practices that you can use in your daily life to take control over your mood, energy, sleep and waking cycles.
NUTRITION – Once you get clear on your objectives with nutrition, the “mystery” of food goes away, and the path to balanced energy and healthy weight management becomes simple and obvious. Pop health advice is conflicting and confusing, and for the most part is based on bad science and flawed logic. In this course, you’ll learn how to take a non-dogmatic approach to eating, an approach that can serve you throughout your life.
You’ll Learn the Following Core YB Nutrition Principles:
- Carb throttling
- Protein optimization
- Fat adaptation
- Low glycemic food focus
- Raw food meets the real world
- Dogma-free meal planning that puts your health first and foremost
- Eating for nervous system & hormonal balance
- Weight loss and weight management
You’ll learn how to balance your blood sugar, your hormones, your energy levels, and how to curb cravings once and for all.

MINDFUL LIVING – The common mistake we often make is to attempt to compartmentalize parts of our lives and focus on them individually. The classic example is the concept of “work-life balance” which everyone is trying to achieve, but no one ever does. Why? Because separating work from life is just as crazy as separating mind from body or food from energy.
Everything in our lives is systemic and holistic, and when we approach our life goals with this mindset, it becomes clear that our morning yoga practice is just as much “real work” as the time spent behind our desk typing away at email. The extra time and expense needed to prepare truly healthy food is just as important as showing up and being present for your personal relationships.
During the Course, You’ll Learn:
- How to prioritize health and set aside “you time” every day, even multiple times throughout the day
- Why health, wealth and relationships are always interconnected and how you can learn into one area to improve another
- Simple tactics for staying more present and enjoying the journey as much (or more) than the destination
During the course, you’ll learn a handful of mindfulness practices that you can use in your life to add focus, presence, and peace that don’t require any massive changes at all, simply a shift in perspective and a heightened sense of self-awareness.
GOAL SETTING & ACTION PLAN for 2017 – Most people overestimate what they can do in one year and underestimate what they can achieve in five years. Success begets success, so during our work together, we’ll flesh out your realistic, 12-month goals in the big 3 areas we all struggle with: health, wealth and relationships. Setting and achieving goals creates a virtuous cycles that leads to more and more personal power and fulfillment as time goes on.
- How to focus on just 1 goal in each of the “big 3” areas of focus
- How to create goals that might take just 3 months, but give yourself a window of 12
- How to focus on the now, but plant seeds for 5 years from now
During the course, we’ll be moving between all three YOGABODY studio locations, walking in the nearby nature areas, practicing yoga both indoors and outdoors, and spending time near the sea. The weather in Barcelona in December is beautiful. The average temperature is around 15 degree Celsius / 60 degrees Fahrenheit. Rain is very rare, most days are sunny and daytime temperatures can often be surprisingly warm.
Clothing / Gear to Consider:
- Yoga clothes, at least 2-3 outfits
- Comfortable walking/hiking shoes (we’ll move around throughout the day)
- Layered clothing (mornings and evenings can be cool, daytime it usually sunny and warm)
- A yoga mat (you can purchase one here if you don’t have one)
- Bathing suit
- Notebook / Journal
- Barcelona has thousands of options, but things book up during this time of the year—so we encourage you to book early
- The 27th of December and 1st of January are “travel days” so you can arrive/depart any time on those days that is convenient
- On the 27th, we’ll have a short orientation meeting in the evening
- On the 1st, there are no scheduled activities
The Best Year Ever Retreat is conducted in beautiful Barcelona, Spain. Barcelona is the home base for YOGABODY International. The weather is great, the cost of living and travel is very reasonable, and the yoga scene is booming. We have 3 studios here and a large team and resources to support the event.

We’ll provide lists of our favorite places. We’ll all share lunch together daily (provided) and dinner and celebration on New Year’s Eve.

With every major accomplishment in my life in terms of my health, my family, and business, I can look back and pinpoint key moments where a clear shift happened. Sometimes it’s as simple as reading a book or meeting a new mentor; but many of my key turning points have been moments when I’ve stepped out of my day-to-day to learn new skills, join with a likeminded group, and gain perspective and plan for the future.
This is what a retreat is all about, and my hope is that this retreat serves a key turning point for you.
We’re going to spend a week together practicing yoga, hiking, watching the sunrise, swimming in the sea, meditating, learning how to use breath, food, and fitness tools to create balance and abundance in life. We’re going to map out our goals for the year, bury the negativity of our past, and lean hard into the present moment without getting too obsessed with the future.
It’s going to be an amazing, intense experience, and I’m excited to share this beautiful city and this beautiful practice of yoga with you. There is no experience required. Whatever your background, you are welcome here. The course will be both physically and emotionally challenging, so come with an open mind, a firm determination, and let’s get to work.
